Parking: park along Morgan or Winton Terrace (not on Boulevard)
Cost: free
Age Range: all ages
Ground Cover: wood mulch
Features: Single play structure with hanging chain, wobbly bridge, monkey bars, swinging monkey rings, regular slide and tunnel slide, tic tac toe wall and numbers wall, steering wheel, and half rainbow climber. Two baby swings and two big kid swings as well.
Surrounding Park Area: the park is just a playground. There are a couple of benches and areas to sit, but no greenspace or other amenities.
Shade: no shade
Seating: several benches surrounding area
Stroller/Wheelchair Access: yes, paved pathway leading up to playground
Safety: I’m a little leery of the chain hanging thing. You basically are supposed to balance on the bottom chain with your feet while holding on the top chain. Seems a little strange to me. Plus, some of the equipment paint is peeling off, revealing some rust.
Cons: Aside from the equipment, I’m not terribly comfortable about the safety of the neighborhood. The playground itself is directly on Boulevard, but it is locked in between two apartments that are public housing units. Really, this entire area of Boulevard is public housing.
Overall Assessment: Overall, this is a fairly run down play area in a shady neighborhood. If you are at Atlanta Medical Center and your kids want to play, don’t take them here. If you are just in the city somewhere and want to take the kids to play, don’t take them here. There are better options…like, for example, the new Historic Fourth Ward Playground.
